Copa Airlines: Baggage Details

Learn about the rules and regulations for your carry-on and checked baggage.

Carry-on Bags

Here’s what you need to know about your carry-on bags.

  • Your carry-on bag can be 22 inches high, 14 inches long, and 10 inches wide (including handles and wheels).
  • You can bring one carry-on bag.
  • Your carry-on can weigh up to 22 lbs.
  • If your carry-on bag is too big or too heavy at the gate, you will have to check it and pay a fee. If you don’t pay, Copa Airlines will not be responsible for your bag; airport staff will keep it.

Personal Items

You can also bring one personal item, which goes under your seat. Items that count as personal items include a handbag/purse, portfolio, backpack, or laptop bag.

  • Your personal item size should be 17 x10x9 inches.
  • If your personal item is too big, you will have to check it and pay a fee.

Checked Bags

Have a look at what you need to know about your checked bags:

  • Copa Airlines may offer discounts on baggage fees if you buy your ticket directly from them. The baggage rules are the same for your whole trip.
  • If you want to know how many bags you can check, use the baggage calculator on the Copa website.
  • When you add the height, length, and width together, each checked bag can be up to 62 inches in total.
  • Bags between 63 inches and 107 inches are “oversized.” You’ll have to pay extra.
  • Copa cannot accept bags that are oversized by more than 115 inches. You’ll have to ship these bags as cargo.
  • The wheels on your bag don’t count towards the size.
  • Pay for your checked bags online when you check in for your flight.  You can check in online between 24 and 3 hours before your flight. This doesn’t work for bags that are too heavy, too big, or special items.
